Student Union
-The Student Union serves as the legitimate representative body through which students engage in diverse activities.
-The Union comprises regularly enrolled students pursuing bachelor’s degrees who have remitted their tuition fees.
– International students who have paid the union fees are entitled to participate in union activities, although they are not eligible to vote or be nominated for office.
The Institute Student Union Council is vested with the following prerogatives:
– Formulating the Union’s policy, predicated on programs submitted by committees.
Ratifying and monitoring the execution of action plans developed by Union Council committees.
– Allocating financial resources to committees and formulating the annual budget for the Council and its constituent committees.
– Approving the Union’s final accounts.
– Coordinating the activities of Union Council committees.
– Fostering relationships with student unions in other faculties.
– Electing a secretary and assistant secretary for the Union Council from among its student members.
-The Institute Student Union Council is constituted annually as follows:
– Under the patronage of the Dean of the Institute (or a designated faculty member).
– Leaders of Union Council committees are drawn from the faculty.
– Assistant secretaries of Union Council committees, drawn from the student body.
– Student members of the Council elect from amongst themselves a secretary and an assistant secretary for the Council.
– The Head of the Technical Youth Welfare Division at the Institute attends Council meetings and serves as the treasurer.
– The Dean of the Institute appoints a certified public accountant to audit the Institute Union’s final accounts.
Student Union Committees:
-The Clubs Committee: Facilitates the establishment of clubs within the Institute, supports their activities, and coordinates their efforts.
-The Sports Activities Committee: Forms sports teams within the Institute and organizes matches and competitions.
-The Cultural Activities Committee: Organizes cultural activities and fosters students’ literary and artistic development.
The Arts Committee: promotes students’ artistic endeavors and provides opportunities to show their talents.
-The Scouting and Public Service Committee:Organizes scouting activities and implements environmental service programs sanctioned by the Institute Council and departments.
-The Social Activities and Trips Committee: Cultivates social bonds between students, faculty, and staff at the Institute and organizes social and cultural trips and camps.
Each Union committee is constituted annually as follows:
– Under the guidance of a faculty advisor (appointed by a decree issued by the Dean of the Institute).
– With two student members from each academic year, elected annually by their peers through a secret ballot.
– Student members of each committee elect from amongst themselves an assistant secretary.
– A representative from the Technical Youth Welfare Division at the Institute attends committee meetings.
Student Union Elections
– Elections for union councils and committees are held no later than the end of November each year. The Dean of the Institute issues a decree specifying the detailed timelines for elections at various levels. Only students listed on the electoral roll and in possession of identification are eligible to vote.
-A quorum of at least 50% of eligible students is required for elections within college student union committees to be valid.
Should the quorum not be met, the elections are postponed to a subsequent date within three days. In this instance, a quorum of at least 20% of eligible voters is required for the validity of the elections.
-Should the quorum not be met on this occasion, all students from the academic years whose voter turnout was insufficient must be represented.
– Should it prove infeasible to form an Institute Student Union Council due to the aforementioned reasons, the Dean of the Institute may appoint a council to administer the Union’s affairs, comprising academically proficient students with a demonstrable record of union activity who meet the candidacy requirements. The advisor and secretary of this council shall have all the rights of membership on the Institute’s Student Activities Coordination Council.
– The advisor of the Union Council or committee is responsible for preparing the agenda, convening meetings, presiding over sessions, and monitoring the implementation of decisions.
– The advisor shall immediately communicate decisions to the Institute’s Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and the Dean of the Institute, as appropriate, upon issuance.
Eligibility criteria for candidacy for membership on Union Council committees include:
– Possession of the Arab Republic of Egypt citizenship.
– Exemplary moral character and a good reputation.
– Enrolment as a full-time student in good standing in their respective academic year.
– Demonstrated activity in the domain of the committee for which they are seeking candidacy.
