Teaching Methods Used
The institute follows the credit hour system (unit of instruction).
The academic year is divided into two semesters (fall and spring).
The beginning and end of each semester are determined according to the approved calendar. Credit hours are the academic unit of measurement used to determine the weight of a course. The duration of study for a bachelor’s degree is four academic years, equivalent to 132 credit hours, with three hours for each course.Students register for courses per semester, with a minimum of 12 credit hours and a maximum of 18 credit hours. The Board of Directors may authorize amendments to the minimum and maximum credit hours for registration for purposes of graduation or avoiding expulsion. By decision of the Institute’s Board of Directors, an intensive summer semester may be held, during which the hours allocated to each course are doubled, with a maximum of six credit hours. The Institute’s Board of Directors may, upon a decision and based on the Dean’s proposal, amend the academic content or registration requirements for any of the academic courses in a manner consistent with modern scientific developments.Examinations are held at the end of each semester.
At the beginning of each semester, the Council determines the distribution of grades for each course, including participation grades, midterm exams, and final exams, depending on the nature of each course. Based on the Dean’s recommendation, the Institute’s Board of Directors approves the elective courses offered each semester and determines the minimum number of students registered for each course to allow the course to be open to students.The Institute’s Board of Directors may, based on the Dean’s proposal and according to the nature of the academic courses, decide to teach one or more courses using a hybrid learning model, whereby the study in the course is 50% face-to-face and 50% via the distance learning system, or any other ratio or any other educational model after notifying the Ministry of Higher Education.The Institute’s Board of Directors, based on the Dean’s proposal, approves courses that require practical applications, which are one and a half hours per week for each course and are not counted as part of the student’s total approved hours.
Levels Of Education
The academic levels are divided into four levels. The student advances to the next level according to the following table:
| The academic level | The student’s position | The number of successfully completed credit hours by the student: | |
| FROM | Less than | ||
| First | First | 0 | 30 |
| Second | Sophomore | 30 | 66 |
| Third | Junior | 66 | 99 |
| Fourth | Senior | 99 | 132 |
A student is allowed to register for a maximum of (18) credit hours per semester.
At the end of the academic year, the Institute’s Board of Directors determines the training locations and student allocation system. The Training Unit is responsible for organizing training dates, locations, and evaluation after the Board of Directors approves the training program and the monitoring and evaluation method. Students may not be exempted from all or part of the training. Students who fail to complete the training are permitted to train with students in the following year or during the following academic year. A student is not awarded a bachelor’s degree unless they pass the training. In the event of training outside the Institute, prior approval from the Institute’s Board of Directors is required. The Institute’s administration prepares the final form of the training plan before the end of the year. Incoming students are permitted to complete the training in their home countries and provide certified and documented evidence of this.
Students are not permitted to register for any course until they have completed the prerequisites. The Board of Directors may make exceptions in some cases to meet the minimum teaching load.
New student registration procedures for each semester must be completed within the week prior to the start of classes for that semester (excluding the summer semester). The Institute’s Board of Directors reserves the right to adjudicate cases of late registration after paying the prescribed late registration penalty within the permitted period.
Students are not permitted to graduate until they have completed practical training and military education as graduation requirements.
