Study System at the Institute:
The study at the institute follows the credit hour system (teaching unit).
The academic year is divided into two semesters (fall and spring). The approved calendar determines the beginning and end of each semester, and credit hours serve as the academic measurement unit for determining the course’s weight.
The duration of study to obtain a bachelor’s degree is four academic years, equivalent to 132 credit hours, with three credit hours per course.
The student registers for courses in one semester with a minimum of 12 credit hours and a maximum of 18 credit hours. The board of directors may authorize amendments to the minimum and maximum credit hours for registration and graduation, or to avoid dismissal.
To obtain a bachelor’s degree in the credit-hour system, the student must pass all courses related to the degree registered for, according to these regulations, totaling 132 credit hours in addition to training.
The institute’s board of directors may decide to hold an intensive summer semester, during which the hours allocated to each course are doubled, with a maximum of 6 credit hours.
The institute’s board of directors may, upon the dean’s proposal, amend the scientific content or registration requirements for any course in a manner commensurate with modern scientific development.
Examinations are held after the end of each semester. At the beginning of each semester, the council determines the distribution of grades for each course as for participation grades, mid-semester exams, and end-of-semester exams, based on the
nature of each course.
The institute’s board of directors, based on the dean’s recommendation, approves the elective courses offered each semester and determines the minimum number of students registered in each course to open it to students.
The institute’s board of directors may, based on the dean’s recommendation and according to the nature of the courses, decide to teach one or more courses in a hybrid education pattern, with 50% of the course delivered face-to-face and 50% via distance education, or any other proportion or any other teaching mode, after notifying the Ministry of Higher Education.
The institute’s board of directors approves, based on the dean’s recommendation, the courses that require practical applications. Each approved course shall include one and a half hours per week — and these hours will not count toward the student’s total accredited credit-hours.
Study Levels
The academic levels are divided into four levels. The student advances to the next level according to the following table:
The academic level | The student’s position | The number of successfully completed credit hours by the student: | |
From | Less than | ||
First | Freshman | 0 | 30 |
Second | Sophomore | 30 | 66 |
Third | Junior | 66 | 99 |
Fourth | Senior | 99 | 132 |
Basic RulesA student may register for a maximum of 18 credit hours per semester.
A student may register for a maximum of 6 credit hours in the summer semester.
The Institute’s Board of Directors determines the training locations and the student distribution system at the end of the academic year. The training unit organizes the dates and locations of training and evaluation after the Board of Directors approves the training program as well as the method of follow-up and assessment. The student may not be exempted from the training in whole or in part;students who miss their training are permitted to complete the training alongside the students of the following year or during the next academic year. The student is not granted a bachelor’s degree unless they pass it. In the case of training outside the Institute, prior approval from the Institute’s Board of Directors is required. The Institute’s administration prepares the final form of the training plan before the end of the year.Incoming students are permitted to complete the training in their home countries and provide certified and documented evidence of this.
Studentsare not allowed to register for any course unless they have completed the prerequisites for it. The Board of Directors may, in some cases, make exceptions to meet the minimum teaching load.
New student registration procedures for each semester must be completed within the week prior to the start of classes for that semester (excluding the summer semester). The Institute’s Board of Directors reserves the right to adjudicate cases of late registration after paying the prescribed late registration penalty within the permitted period.
The student is not allowed to graduate unless he has completed practical training and military education as graduation requirements.
